Access Statement for The Beckett
Introduction
The Beckett is a family run three storey 150 year old Victorian Town
House situated approximately 12-15 minutes’ walk from the bustling
city centre of York.
Pre-Arrival
The railway station, and national bus stops, are approximately 20
minutes walk away. Taxis are available at the station and take
approximately 10 minutes depending on traffic to our Guest House.
Directions given if travelling by car.
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
Parking is available on-street. Free car permits will be issued on
arrival.
Rooms are usually available from 12.30 am.
Checks in times are before 2pm and after 4pm.
Other check in times can be pre-arranged.
Assistance offered in carrying luggage.
Main Entrance, Reception & Ticketing Area
Access to the front door is up to steps from street level.
On arrival guests fill in registration form.
A Room Key is provided and the key code for the entrance door is
explained.
There are 2 keys provided, one for the bedroom door and one for the
front door.
Breakfast times are discussed along with any special dietary
requirements.
Guests recommended local places to eat and drink.
Guests shown to their rooms.
Public Areas - Hall, Stairs, Landing, Corridors etc
Hall has Victorian tiles.
Dining room has antique laminate flooring.
All stairs and corridors and bedrooms have carpets.
The dining room is on the ground floor.
There are 12 steps to single room and another 5 steps to first floor
which comprises of 1 double and 2 twins.
There are another 19 steps to second floor which leads to three
double rooms.
There are 14 more steps to family room.
Public Areas - Sitting room, lounges, lobbies etc
Dining room is situated on the ground floor.
We have no sitting room but guests welcome to use Dining room.
Selection of maps and Tourist leaflets available in Hall.
Bookshelf with books available to exchange is situated outside Room
one which is 12 steps up from the Hall.
Public WCs
There is no public WC.
Restaurant / Dining Room, Bar & Bar area, Take Away & Cafe
Breakfast is served between 8.30 am to 9am weekdays and 8.30am to
9.30am at weekends.
Special diets can be catered for.
Laundry
Laundry can be sent to Laundry used by Guest House and will be
returned following day.
A charge will be applied to guest's Account.
A launderette is situated in Haxby Road approximately 15 to 20
minutes walk.
Shop
There is a Newsagent and mini-mart approx 3 -5 minutes walk open
till 8pm weekdays and 6pm on Sunday.
Bedrooms & Sleeping Areas
There are four doubles en-suite, 2 twins, one en-suite the other has
a private bathroom for the use of that room.
There is one single room en-suite and one family room en-suite.
All rooms have carpets, TV’s, tea and coffee making facilities and
hairdryers.
Iron and ironing board is available on request.
Extra blankets and pillows are provided. All beds have duvets and
bed covers.
Shower gel, shampoo, hand soap, wrapped soap, shower caps and
flannels are provided.
Ceiling fans are in all rooms except family room.
Additional Information
Fire extinguishers are on all floors.
Primary fire escape route is down the stairs and assemble in the
street.
Secondary fire escape route is on second floor, exit through Room 5
into neighbouring Abingdon Guest House.
Smoking is not permitted in the Guest House.
